Tous les talks seront en français 🇫🇷.

👨 Talk #1: Building my own Android launcher (and rediscovering Android basics along the way) Renaud Mathieu

Modern Android development hides a lot from us. Between Compose, Jetpack libraries, and modern architecture libraries, it is easy to spend years shipping apps without touching the primitives that make the platform work.

I wanted a home screen that actually fit the way I use my phone. So I built my own launcher. It turned out to be the best Android refresher I have had in years.

In this session, we will build a launcher step by step and meet the classics on the way: how the system decides which app is “home”, how intents and intent filters expose every launchable activity, how PackageManager and LauncherApps list what is installed, how BroadcastReceivers keep you in sync when apps come and go, how AppWidgetHost lets you host widgets, and what really happens in the task stack when you press the Home button.

You will leave with a renewed respect for Android’s fundamentals, but don’t worry, we will also cover much of modern Android development.

👨 Talk #2: Screenshots as code: shipping Play Store assets from a unit test Julien Salvi

Updating Play Store screenshots usually goes like this: someone takes captures on a device, a designer puts them into frames, someone else translates the headlines, and the whole thing goes out of date at the next redesign. At Aircall we replaced that process with a JVM unit test.

This talk covers a small tool module that renders our real Compose screens from the same fixtures as their Android Studio previews. It runs headlessly with Robolectric and Roborazzi, so there’s no emulator, no device and no golden images. Each screen goes into a real Pixel device frame on a mesh gradient background with a localized headline, and the output is Play-compliant PNGs for every screen and locale. A manual CI job then uploads them through the Play Developer API as a single atomic edit.

You’ll leave with a pattern you can reuse to treat store assets like any other build output: reviewable, reproducible and one click away from the store.

🍕 Pizzas & networking On termine la soirée autour de pizzas pour échanger avec les speakers et la communauté.

Into the Android world for almost 10 years (scary Eclipse dark time!), I experienced California startup way of life before coming back to France. I am currently a Senior Android Engineer at Aircall where we are building the best phone system for modern businesses. Alongside Android, I have a great interest in backend development with Kotlin and AR/VR technology. On my spare time, I am a world traveler and a beer lover always looking for the best IPAs!
